in the time between my Lucky Man CD and my Overdue CD. I completed the Lucky Man CD and released it at the end of 2011. Around that same time I got a call from my old friend Jimmy Muffin (AKA Jimmy Yessian) asking if I would like to participate in a monthly dinner at his house to talk about music. I said yes. And so did four other songwriter friends. Our first meeting was in January, 2012. We decided then that not only were we going to discuss the music business, but we were going to assign a songwriting prompt or challenge for each of us to write a song for the next month. So it began. Each month we met for dinner, which Jimmy prepared so graciously, followed by each of us playing our song from the last month's prompt. Then together we would decide what the next song challenge would be.
After 9 or 10 months of surprisingly good songs from each of us, we decided to play as a band. In this way the Tall Men Group was born. The following year we released our first album of songs, 12 by 6. Then came our second album 2 Tall, followed by a third, Feast, and a fourth with less of a band sound called Stripped Down. Somewhere after the fourth album, we lost one member of the band, Jeff Kossack, who wanted to spend more time on his own productions at his studio.. But the five remaining members (Jimmy Yessian, Marty Axelrod, Ed Tree, John Stowers, and Severin Browne) went on to make a fifth album simply called 5. That was in November of 2019.
And now (2021) the band has been jolted by the loss of our leader Jimmy Yessian, who succumbed to cancer of the pancreas in August. We miss him terribly, but have decided to continue our monthly meetings and our occasional gigs. So the songwriting and the camaraderie continues.
You can buy any of the Tall Men Group CDs at many online music sellers.
